Looking for a fun outdoor activity to celebrate my almost-50th (49th) birthday, a friend and I launched the Hobie tandem pedal/flipper-driven kayak from the boat ramp at the Morro Bay State Park Marina under sunny skies, a sustained 20-knot wind, choppy seas, and hazardous large floating mats of rudder-stopping algae. In 2-minutes we made it across the bay to the sand spit. Landing on a deserted beach, we trekked 1/4 mile across the otherworldly dunes to the open ocean on the other side. On the way back, these converging wind waves begged to be documented. The intoxicating aroma of bush lupine in full bloom wafted by and made for an all-sensory experience.
